Burley, ID City Council

What changes or progress have you seen in your city?

What progress have we made? We started about 3 years ago with the Human Rights in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and I opened my mouth and said, we can bring this to Burley. So we did, but I delegated it all out so we were the first. But the comment that I really want to make tonight is that you are leaving out something very important. If I get a little emotional here bear with me. It is a human factor. I am not physically color-blind but I am color-blind. You are my friends, you are Americans, your blood flows the same--the difference is that we have a different heritage. We may have different lifestyles but in our community, we try to embrace everyone the same. I'd like to comment on a few of the things that were said earlier. Number one is the kids that may get into trouble. Hey, I got a reckless driving ticket when I was a kid. Don't blame it all on the Hispanics. They are just the same as we are. Don't blame the welfare on the Hispanics, it's not fair. You politicians, and I am one, take care of your programs, do what you have to do, do the legal things. Let's have a little heart in this; let's work together. Are you different than I am? Do you put on your pants the same way I do? I hope so, but I am sick of hearing this "Latino . . .", I could use a lot of derogatory names, but I don't see that. Let's just get together and get things done.
