Liliam Lujan-Hickey
Regional chair of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Las Vegas; President of the USHCC Foundation

I just wanted to say something different because what I did, first I got elected to the State Board of Education, I didn't want to run for any other office because I felt the way I can save America is through education. And one of the first things I learned is that to receive funding from the federal government is like marketing. When I talk about bilingual, the Board does not exist in my language anymore. When I claim I want English language learners for these Hispanic students, you know what, I am getting the funding for it because the federal government understands that language. The people that vote in Washington understand that language and what I have done is changed America and I am educating the Hispanics to be better by telling them use the system. They like to be called English language learners; nobody can tell you they don't want to learn English.
